This isn't just a vlog; it's a journey, and I'm thrilled to have you along for the ride!
My Morning Routine in Kurdistan
Let's kick things off with my typical morning routine here in Kurdistan. The day usually starts pretty early, around 6 AM. The first thing I do is grab a cup of strong, traditional Kurdish tea. Tea is a staple in Kurdish culture, and it's the perfect way to wake up and get ready for the day. After tea, I usually do some light exercises or go for a quick walk to get my blood flowing. The mornings here are so peaceful, with the sounds of birds chirping and the distant call to prayer. It's a really serene way to start the day. Next up is breakfast! Kurdish breakfast is a feast – usually consisting of fresh bread, cheese, olives, honey, and eggs. It's a hearty meal that keeps me energized throughout the morning. After breakfast, I check my emails and plan out my day. Whether it's exploring a new part of the city, working on a project, or meeting up with friends, there's always something exciting happening. Before heading out, I always make sure to brush my teeth with my trusty toothbrush and get dressed. Now I'm ready to start the day!
Exploring the Vibrant City Life
One of the things I love most about living in Kurdistan is the vibrant city life. Today, I decided to visit the local bazaar, which is a hub of activity and a sensory overload in the best way possible. The bazaar is filled with stalls selling everything from fresh produce and spices to traditional clothing and handicrafts. I love wandering through the narrow streets, soaking in the atmosphere, and haggling for the best prices. You can find some truly unique treasures here! After the bazaar, I headed to a local cafe to meet up with some friends. We sat outside, sipped on Kurdish coffee, and chatted for hours. It's amazing how friendly and welcoming the people here are. I always feel so at home in Kurdistan. In the afternoon, I decided to visit the city's historical sites. Kurdistan has a rich history, and there are so many ancient ruins and monuments to explore. I spent hours wandering through the old city, learning about the region's past and marveling at the architectural wonders. As the sun began to set, I made my way to a rooftop restaurant overlooking the city. The views were absolutely breathtaking! I enjoyed a delicious Kurdish dinner while watching the city lights twinkle below. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploring.
Adventures in the Kurdish Countryside
Today, I decided to escape the city and venture into the beautiful Kurdish countryside. I rented a car and drove through the rolling hills and picturesque valleys. The scenery was absolutely stunning! My first stop was a small village nestled in the mountains. I wandered through the village, admiring the traditional Kurdish houses and chatting with the friendly locals. They invited me into their homes for tea and shared stories about their lives. It was such a heartwarming experience. After the village, I drove to a nearby waterfall. The waterfall was surrounded by lush greenery, and the sound of the rushing water was incredibly soothing. I spent hours hiking around the area, taking in the natural beauty. I even took a dip in the cool water! In the afternoon, I visited a local farm. I learned about traditional farming techniques and even got to try my hand at milking a cow. It was definitely a unique experience! As the sun began to set, I found a scenic spot overlooking the valley. I sat there and watched the sunset, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Kurdish countryside. It was a day filled with adventure and unforgettable moments.
Cooking Traditional Kurdish Food
Alright guys, today we're diving into the heart of Kurdish cuisine! I'm going to show you how to cook one of my favorite traditional Kurdish dishes. Cooking traditional Kurdish food is something truly special. First up, we're making Kufta, which is a delicious meatball dish simmered in a flavorful tomato sauce. The ingredients you'll need are ground meat (beef or lamb), rice, onions, parsley, and a blend of spices. The spices are what give Kurdish food its unique and aromatic flavor. We're talking cumin, coriander, paprika, and a touch of chili for a little kick. First, you mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and form them into small meatballs. Then, you sauté the meatballs in a pan until they're browned on all sides. Next, you prepare the tomato sauce. This involves sautéing onions and garlic in olive oil, then adding diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and more spices. Once the sauce is simmering, you add the meatballs and let them cook for about 30 minutes, or until they're cooked through and the sauce has thickened. The smell alone is enough to make your mouth water! While the Kufta is simmering, I'm also going to show you how to make Kurdish rice. Kurdish rice is known for its fluffy texture and subtle flavor. The secret is to rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking it. This removes the excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky. You cook the rice in a pot with water and a little bit of salt. Once the water comes to a boil, you reduce the heat to low and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until it's cooked through. And there you have it – a delicious and authentic Kurdish meal! I love sharing these recipes with you guys because food is such an important part of Kurdish culture. It's a way to connect with family and friends, and to celebrate the traditions of the region.
Celebrating Kurdish Festivals and Traditions
One of the most amazing things about living in Kurdistan is experiencing the vibrant festivals and traditions. The Kurdish people have a rich cultural heritage, and there are celebrations happening throughout the year. Today, I want to share some of my favorite Kurdish festivals and traditions with you. First up is Newroz, which is the Kurdish New Year. It's celebrated on March 21st, and it's a time of joy, renewal, and new beginnings. People gather together to light bonfires, dance, and sing traditional Kurdish songs. It's a truly magical experience! Another important festival is Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan. It's a time of feasting and celebration, and people visit family and friends to exchange gifts and share meals. The atmosphere is always so festive and joyful. In addition to these major festivals, there are also many smaller celebrations throughout the year. These include weddings, birthdays, and religious holidays. Each celebration is unique and special in its own way. One of my favorite Kurdish traditions is the art of storytelling. Kurdish storytellers are highly respected in the community, and they often share ancient myths and legends. The stories are usually accompanied by music and dance, making for a truly immersive experience. Another tradition that I love is the art of carpet weaving. Kurdish carpets are renowned for their intricate designs and vibrant colors. They're often passed down from generation to generation, and they're considered to be works of art. Experiencing these festivals and traditions has given me a deep appreciation for Kurdish culture. It's a culture that is rich in history, tradition, and hospitality. I feel so grateful to be a part of it.
Learning the Kurdish Language
Let's talk about learning the Kurdish language! If you're planning a trip to Kurdistan or simply want to connect with the culture on a deeper level, learning a few basic Kurdish phrases can go a long way. The Kurdish language is a branch of the Indo-Iranian language family, and it has several dialects. The two main dialects are Kurmanji (Northern Kurdish) and Sorani (Central Kurdish). I'm currently learning Sorani, as it's the most widely spoken dialect in the region where I live. One of the first things I learned was how to say hello. In Sorani, you say "Supas bo nasînit" (Nice to meet you). Another useful phrase is "Çonî?" (How are you?). You can respond with "Başim" (I'm fine) or "Nim baş" (I'm not fine). Learning how to order food and drinks is also essential. To order tea, you can say "Chay bide" (Give me tea). And to ask for the price, you can say "Bichnde?" (How much is it?). Of course, learning a language takes time and effort. I've been using a variety of resources, including language learning apps, textbooks, and online courses. I also try to practice speaking with native speakers as much as possible. It can be challenging at times, but it's also incredibly rewarding. Being able to communicate with people in their native language opens up a whole new world of opportunities. It allows you to connect with them on a deeper level and to gain a greater understanding of their culture. Plus, it's just plain fun!

Living in Kurdistan has been an incredible adventure, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to experience this amazing culture.
